Rewiring the brain thru patterns, habits, and infrasstructure
For many problems, and many successes, it is as simple as changing a habit, creating a new routine, and the aftereffects just fall into place. Solving many problems can be as simple as modifying a few habits!
Applied Behavioral Medicine Associates: - improving life by focusing directly on the behaviors that cause the problems, and developing the habits of behavior that will lead to success
We help change behavior. We change behavior by changing habits. We view xx fundemental unit of behavior as a habit, a behavior, or series of behaviors, that occurs reliably in a specific set of circumstances. The concept applies to behaviors one can see xovert as well as those typically thought of as mental privat attitudes, beliefs, opinions, etc... Changing behaviors and habits often leads to success in whatever area one is trying to improve - physical illness, mental illness, interpersonal interaction, organization, and iproblem solving to name a few. Successful accomplishments often lead to better performance, better health, and feeling better - physically AND emotionally. In that sense, sometimes doing something about the problem actually makes one feel better, often more effectively and efficiently than approaches that emphasize first thinking or talking about feeling better about the problem. While talking out problems can be the best approach for some issues, just as importantly, the problems in some situations can actually be best addressed by first changing the behaviors contributing to the situation's problems, setting up a better foundation for further relationship building and habit development. Ideally, one identifies behaviors contributing to the problem, figures out how to change the factors that lead to the behaviors, develops a new behavior sequence, and learns it, practices it, over and over again in simple then more complex circumstances, until the new behavior pattern becomes a "habit" that occurs reliably in appropriate circumstances. This process can be neither as easy, or as daunting, as it sounds. Many counseling approaches center on helping patients to feel better by focusing upon having more positive feelings about themselves "just the way they are," and by building relationships over time. That can be very important and very helpful in many situations. But in other situations, some of the traditional approaches of counseling and therpay disciplines involve alot of talking and relationship buiding.. which might be helpful in some situations, but not really needed, take up too much time (50 minutes, once a week), or even be detrimental. Sometimes, one can most efficiently solve the problem, and help to feel better, by focusing on first, to the extent possible, fixing basic problems or achieving the component goals. By focusing on changing the behaviors, the attitudes, the feelings, the relationships improve as a result. Applied Behavioral Medicine Associates focuses on helping a patient to quickly identify and to the extent possible directly change the behaviors and other factors that contribute to problem, so that patients have more positive feelings about themselves because they have fixed the problems! This can serve as an extraordinary emporwerment, that empowerment which patients are able to generate themselves. Successful recovery from trauma, whether caused by car crash, bomb blast, or horriffic emotional situation, now typically involves a multidisciplinary team approach, integrating multiple disciplines and modalities simultaneously, sucessively, and synergistically. we heartily embrace and practice this, by definition of the integrated medicine, public health, and applied behavior analysis framework on which our approaches are based.
Applied Behavioral Medicine Associates identify and clarify specific problems, and then help the patient change behavior and develop habits to fix the problems in ways the patient feels is most suitable. We believe that is an effective way to promote long term "feeling better" and increased "self esteem," by DOING BETTER!! Key Aspects of the Applied Behavioral Medicine Associates Approach:- breaking down whatever "problem" for which help is sought into components, including "building block" behaviors and aspects of the person's environment- careful analyis of other habits/behavior patterns in the patient's life, determining approaches that work well for the patient in various other situations, and those that perhaps work less well- evaluation of factors leading up to the behavior in question, that facilitate or inhibit the behavior, and that maintain the behavior after it has occurred, the consequences of that behavior- objective, methodical, and data driven- not alot of talk about the past or deterimining blame; we "glance" to the past, but focus on quickly improving the future by identifying factors to change in the present- identify and clearly define the problem situation and its component behaviors, outline a plan to change the behaviors that are involved, put it into place, periodly check how it is doing, revise and reevaluate as needed- focused, aggressive, short term treatment programs designed to give long lasting results, because of the changes made and habits developed If you are focused on working to make the most of your future using an integrated, eclectic system of principles and methods tailored for your individual needs, or would like to be, call Applied Behavioral Medicine Associates, or click here.
